Music festival cancelled

A two-day annual music festival in Belfast has been cancelled because of the growing number of other festivals in the UK.

The Tennents Vital event started in 2002 and has been running for the last six years in the city. Last year, an estimated 35,000 fans packed into Ormeau Park to see The Killers, Razorlight and others. In previous years Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs and Kings Of Leon have headlined.

But sponsor Tennent's said it was scrapping this year's event because it could not "secure the necessary talent" in a "difficult climate for live music events." They said there were more than 500 music festivals in the UK.

Tennent's added that it "is currently investigating other opportunities and remain hopeful that they can continue their strong relationship with music in Northern Ireland in the near future."

The brewing giant remains sponsor of Scotland's T In The Park.

The Tennent's Vital festival has been hit with the emergence of a brand new event in Northern Ireland this year. Belsonic will take place on August 11, 14 and 15. Flaming Lips, The Enemy, Reverend And The Makers and Mystery Jets are amongst the acts appearing.

Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Ends Legal Woes

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has finally settled his legal woes over a basketball court in the back of his house.
The Titanic star had landed himself in trouble when he started building the court at the Hollywood Hills home he rents off his cousin Robert Hrtica.
Neighbours Ronald and Joan Linclau sued the pair last May for allegedly causing damage to their property.
The Linclaus alleged DiCaprio "maliciously" cut and removed hedges; excavated "earth, granite and bedrock", destabilising their deck and swimming pool; and ignored their repeated requests to halt the 2004 construction.
They attempted to sue for trespass, nuisance and negligence and sought $250,000 in compensation.
But the legal dispute has now been solved according to a notice of settlement filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.

Singer Meldrum Dies

Former PHANTOM BLUE guitarist MICHELLE MELDRUM has died. She was 39.

The Meldrum frontwoman passed away after suffering a brain haemorrhage on 18 May (08).

Meldrum's former Phantom Blue bandmate Linda MCDonald says, "It comes as a complete shock and the impact will be felt by so many. She was a one of a kind and will be sorely missed. I don't really know what to say right now. Thank you for your prayers. I'm sure she heard them all. It is a very sad, sad day."

The surviving bandmembers of Meldrum plan to release a tribute CD later this year (08), reports Blabbermouth.net.

The star - married to Europe guitarist John Norum - leaves one son, Jake Thomas, three.

"America's Got Talent," and lots of it

There's something about "America's Got Talent" — free-form, freestyle, free of rules — that seems to fit its place and time.

"It's a kind of showcase for all American talent," said Piers Morgan, one of the judges and "Celebrity Apprentice" winner. "In that way, we've become a sort of patriotic show."

Two of the show's three judges (Morgan and Sharon Osbourne) are British; so are two of the three creators, including "American Idol's" Simon Cowell. (David Hasselhoff is the third judge; Jerry Springer hosts.)

Jugglers and plate-spinners have equal status with cellists and sopranos.

The first champion was an 11-year-old singer; the second was a ventriloquist. "He signed a big contract in Las Vegas," Morgan said.

X-Files star pregnant with third child

'X-Files' star Gillian Anderson has confirmed she is expecting her third child.
The child will be her second with boyfriend, Mark Griffiths. The couple have an 18-month-old son named Oscar.
Thirty-nine-year-old Anderson also has a 13-year-old daughter, Piper, with her ex-husband Clyde Klotz. She and her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, separated in April 2006 after only 16 months of marriage.
Anderson shot to fame during the nineties as FBI agent Dana Scully in 'The X-Files'. She will reprise the role for a second 'X-Files' movie entitled 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe', which is released at the end of July.

X Factor's Dannii speaks out about feud

'X Factor' judge Dannii Minogue has spoken out about her feud with fellow judge Sharon Osbourne.
In an interview with The Sun, the Australian singer said of Osbourne: "I have had my ups and downs with her."
"While she was busy talking about why I shouldn't be there and bad-mouthing me, I just got on with the job and kept silent."
Minogue, who mentored the winning act on the last series of the show, said: "I think it was very embarrassing for her when two out of three of my artists ended up getting the Number One and Number Two slots."
"There was only one person who didn't congratulate me - and that was Ms Osbourne."
