Music festival cancelled

A two-day annual music festival in Belfast has been cancelled because of the growing number of other festivals in the UK.

The Tennents Vital event started in 2002 and has been running for the last six years in the city. Last year, an estimated 35,000 fans packed into Ormeau Park to see The Killers, Razorlight and others. In previous years Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs and Kings Of Leon have headlined.

But sponsor Tennent's said it was scrapping this year's event because it could not "secure the necessary talent" in a "difficult climate for live music events." They said there were more than 500 music festivals in the UK.

Tennent's added that it "is currently investigating other opportunities and remain hopeful that they can continue their strong relationship with music in Northern Ireland in the near future."

The brewing giant remains sponsor of Scotland's T In The Park.

The Tennent's Vital festival has been hit with the emergence of a brand new event in Northern Ireland this year. Belsonic will take place on August 11, 14 and 15. Flaming Lips, The Enemy, Reverend And The Makers and Mystery Jets are amongst the acts appearing.
